if you want to feel smart and laugh a little, get freakanomics (non-fiction). if you want a novel, i read Pride and Prejudice this year and was really surprised at how much i liked it.
but if i could only recommend one, it would be The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory. hopefully you didn't see the movie b/c i don't think it's quite the same.
I've always loved Wally Lamb...both his novels, " She's Come Undone" and " I Know This Much Is True" are fantastic. "Lucy Sullivan's Getting Married" by Marian Keyes and "The Pilot's Wife" by Anita Shreve are also favorites of mine!! Post your final picks!!
being the non reader... I would suggest the princess bride... it is a nonthinker book that will have you laugh out loud.
Since you are about to take a huge leap of faith with stephens pharmacy, Praying God's Will by Stormie Omartian... simple to read and I am reading it too! we could compare notes!
If you don't like these ideas... just go with the staples: US Weekly and Cosmo these are the educated publications I choose often!
I'm not sure what kind of books you read, but my good friend Traci (http://acceptabletime.blogspot.com) has a lot of cool book reviews on her blog. She reads mainly literary classics and young adult lit (she's a young adult librarian).
